The wines that the nice man at Que Syrah chose for us...

2008 Elizabeth Rose

P2270098
Interesting Pinot.  Darker in color than expected.

Not a particularly big nose, but there's a nose, kind of fruity, but orchard fruity not fruit salad fruity.  A bit of acid up front, but not at the finish. Not as much fruit on the palette as the nose, and a sort of smooth earthy note all the way through.

And, it's certifed Organic if that's relevant to anything.

2008 Mud House (March 2010)

P4250050

This was one of two wines that joined us for dinner at (k)new A Date Night Article.  But coincidentally (a very pleasant coincidence!) we had it not long ago A Date Night Article, selected by our friends.

Being just the two of us this time we could spend a little more time 'looking' at the wine.  One of us saw the same toastyness we saw the first time around, but the other thought it to be more smokey than toasty.  We really couldn't get a consensus so burnt toast was offered up, but pretty much rejected.  What is in agreement is the richness of color and palette, and dark berry type flavors coming through.  If we 'looked' really really hard we could probably agree that some gentle spiciness comes through in the finish?

It would be nice to keep a case of this tucked away, but the tasting notes suggest drink it now.  There's no doubt that we would have this wine again with just about anything, given a sensible opportunity.
